EPAs impact 'long time coming'

In November 2009, the EPA issued a final rule to reduce water pollution from construction sites, which became effective in February. To be phased in over four years, the regulations seek to improve water quality and reduce the amount of sediment discharged from construction sites by up to 27 million pounds annually.

Group seeks to create wetland-mitigation bank

Wetland banks must be permitted by the state or water district and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The agencies assign a number of credits that mitigation bankers can sell based on the amount and value of wetlands to be restored. -- (full text)

Developers fined nearly $45,000 for storm water violations
Thursday, February 11, 2010--
The Environmental Protection Agency has settled with seven firms and individuals accused of violating the Clean Water Act at construction sites in northern Idaho. EPA found the violations during routine inspections last fall in the Sandpoint area. The violations resulted in fines ranging from $8,000 - $14,000.
